Established in 1974 under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Hassan Dani, the Department of Anthropology at Quaid-i-Azam University is a joint effort of a team from University of Pennsylvania and Heidelberg (Germany). In August 1976, Dr. M. A. Rauf was appointed as the first Chairman of the Department. The Department of Anthropology at Quaid-i-Azam University is a pioneer institute in the country offering premier Anthropology programmes at undergraduate as well as post-graduate levels. Our students are trained to be an expert in the discipline. Coached in critical thinking, our students become capable of positively addressing social problems through careful analysis of theory and empirical evidence. Graduates from the department have been able to paved successful and gleaming career paths. Given the broad knowledge base they are engaged in diverse sectors including, primarily academia, civil services, development sector as well as tourist industry, museum curatorship and documentary film production. The department of anthropology at QAU, is the pioneer department of anthropological studies in Pakistan. Nearly all the universities in Pakistan where the anthropology is taught has the alumni of this department as their faculty members.
